Campervan Conversion Water & Plumbing (Updated Feb 2026) Water Heater Due to the bodywork mods needed, one of the first items I fitted into the van, was the Water heater. I went with the tried and tested Truma Ultrastore 10L, running off Gas/AC. I had to build a platform for it to sit on. This raised it enough, for the inlet/exhaust cowl to clear the Transits side body molding. It's a tight fit in this location, but this is crucial, if my layout is to work. ![]() I had to trim a small amount of internal bodywork away to make room for the heater. The platform was bolted to the floor using Stainless Steel M8 Bolts/Washers/Rivnuts. ![]() With this heater location, I also had to fit a right angle adapter and dent the body pillar to create ample space for spanners when making this LPG input connection. The sides of the transit are anything but straight, I had to build a flat external faceplate for the heater to seal against. ![]()
1). I used an
Aluminium plate and body filler to make the faceplate.
2). This was primed with acid etch primer, to key into the Aluminium. 3). White under coat, followed by White top coat, was then applied. ![]() 4). The inlet/exhaust plate was bolted into position using Sikoflex sealant. 5). Cowling fitted using Stainless Screws. 6). Cover clipped into position - installation done. It remains for the gas and electrical connections to be made, but that's for another day. To be continued.............. |
