Esoteric P-700 CD Transport. May 2024 I looked every where for a pre loved machine, that had the die cast VRDS metal bridge. There were a few advertised around the world, but none were suitable for UK voltage. I did however, manage to find and purchase a P-700 in good clean condition. It's the Esoteric GE version (General Export), so it has externally selectable input voltages of 120v and 230v. I acquired it from a HiFi repair business in Perth, Australia, who advertised it on Aussie Audio Mart. It was serviced by them before being put up for sale. Here are some pictures of it as delivered to the UK. ![]() ![]() It's a nice clean unit and everything works as it should, I've always liked half width CD Transports, this format seems fit for purpose to me. ![]() There's very little on the rear panel. A permanently attached power cord, a voltage selector switch (set at 230v for the UK) plus Toslink and RCA SPDIF outputs. ![]() ![]() No scratches, so I'm well pleased. ![]() It has the CMK-3.2 version of the VRDS mechanism inside, with Sony KSS-151A Laser assembly. It's mid-range when it comes to VRDS, but still very competent and head and shoulders better than the CMK-4 version, fitted to the TEAC VRDS T1 Transport. First thoughts are........... I could change to a 75ohm BNC connector on the SPDIF coax output. Upgrading to a Trichord Clock 4 is worth consideration, as this mod is supposed to elevate the output of decks like this to a higher level. Thinking about it, a better quality external PSU might be the way to go. Mmnnn........... ![]() I had to make adjustments to my equipment rack to cater for the taller Esoteric Transport. Once it was in the rack I could play it for the first time. Wow, it sounds great, hopefully the mods I have planned will take it even further. Upgrades After living with the unit for a while and researching what upgrade options are available, I decided on the following......... To be continued! |
